My Tips for Corporate Headshots

In today's world, professional headshots are essential for creating a strong online presence and establishing a strong personal brand. A corporate headshot can be used for a variety of purposes, from LinkedIn profiles to company websites and marketing materials. But to ensure that your headshot stands out and makes a great first impression.

Here are some of my tips for a successful photoshoot:

1.  Dress for Success: One of the most important things to consider when taking a corporate headshot is your outfit. I recommend solid colours as opposed to patterns. Dark colours such black, grey, and navy, are safe. Bold, bright colours also photograph well. Choose clothing that reflects your professional style; something you feel confident in. Also, be mindful of any logos or patterns that may distract from your beautiful face.

2.  Hair and Makeup: You don't need to go overboard with hair and makeup for a corporate headshot, but you should still take care to look and feel your best. For women, keep makeup natural and professional-looking. For men, pay attention to your grooming and consider trimming facial hair or getting a haircut before the shoot.

3.  Posing: Seeing as this is a headshot, go ahead and put one hand in your pocket. You will instantly feel more relaxed. You can also place a hand on your hip, or cross your arms depending on the look you are trying to achieve. Angle your body away from the camera, about 45°. Turn your head so you are looking straight towards the camera, keeping your chin up slightly.

A little practice can go a long way. Practice in front of your mirror or with a friend using your smart phone. We all have a “good side”, and a “not-so-good” side so experiment with both sides.

4.  Hire a Professional Photographer: While it may be tempting to take a headshot yourself or have a friend take it, it's best to hire a professional photographer (preferably yours truly). A professional will have the experience and the equipment (including lighting) to create a polished, high-quality headshot that truly represents you.
